Recently, the wife and I were invited to San Francisco to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the ‘Summer of Love’. It was an in-depth look back into what it was like in 1967, when nearly 100,000 young people journeyed to San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighborhood looking for a better life.
Since I was born in the mid-80’s, anything I learned about the 60’s was thanks to Hollywood, history books, and of course, songs. Naturally, this trip was an eyeopening one.
The city has rallied behind the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love with more than 60 festivals, performances, exhibitions and activities to celebrate the year that changed both SF and the world forever. And to help visitors make their stay as groovy as possible, 10 hotels have created special Summer of Love packages:
- Fairmont San Francisco
- Hilton San Francisco Union Square
- Le Meridien San Francisco
- Omni San Francisco
- The Palace Hotel
- Parc 55 San Francisco – A Hilton Hotel
- The Park Central
- The St. Regis San Francisco
- Tilden Hotel
- The Westin St. Francis
Each hotel features a different package. We were put up at The Westin St. Francis, which offers 10% off 2 VIP general admission tickets that can be used both at the de Young Museum and Legion of Honor (on the same day). Other Summer of Love-themed amenities in packages include a flower for your hair upon arrival, a commemorative Summer of Love celebration magazine, a Summer of Love-themed evening turndown, a welcome cocktail for two, San Francisco CityPASS booklets, and/or tickets to the “The Summer of Love Experience: Art, Fashion, and Rock & Roll” exhibit at the de Young Museum (through Aug. 20, 2017).
In addition to the 10 hotels with special Summer of Love packages, San Francisco Travel has put together a special microsite to commemorate the 50th anniversary. Visit www.summeroflove2017.com for guides and other recommendations to make your stay in SF this summer a special one.
