A recent trip to NYC reminded me how little winter gear I have. Living in Los Angeles for so long, though a New Englander born and raised, I’ve forgot how cold it can get. The entire weekend consisted of me finding excuses to step foot into stores and coffee shops to gain feeling back into my hands and feet.
To help you avoid the same dilemma I was in during your holiday travels, I’ve shared some of my favorite picks from Sierra Trading Post’s new winter essentials.
1. Columbia Sportswear Bugaboot Original Tall Omni-Heat® Snow Boots
There wasn’t snow on the ground just yet, but I could have really used a pair of the Columbia Sportswear Bugaboot Original Tall Omni-Heat snow boots. They’re seam-sealed, so you can be sure your feet are both toasty warm and free from getting wet. In addition, its calf-height upper features a wool felt-lining, adding even more heat and coziness to your step.
2. Berghaus Ben Lomond Gore-Tex® Jacket
The jacket itself doesn’t look very warm, but you should never judge a book by its cover, right? The Berghaus Ben Lomond Jacket features a waterproof exterior thanks to its use of Gore-Text technology, and the inner vest features the warmth of Hydroloft microfiber insulation, which adapts to the changing temperatures. Great for when you’re going in and out of the cold.
3. Marmot Reactor Jacket – Polartec® Fleece
As a travel writer, self-proclaimed adventure enthusiast and avid photographer, I do my best to always pack and carry light. There is nothing worst that trying to lug a big camera around your neck with a puffy jacket on. The Marmot Reactor Jacket is the ideal jacket for those days adventuring outside. It’s constructed with Angel Wing Movement, allowing you to freely maneuver around without unrestricted movement. And let’s not forget the Polartec Classic microfleece fabric that keeps you warm with or without additional layers.
4. Outdoor Research Delegate Beanie Hat
An important part of the body to keep you warm and comfortable is your head, so make sure you have the proper gear. The Outdoor Research Delegate Beanie was built for performance, made from a blend of heavy-knit merino wool and ultra durable, silky acrylic. Gearing up for a heli-hiking experience or just for a casual hike? Get this hat!
5. Burton AMB Snowboard Boots
Something new I’m excited to partake in this year is snowboarding. I grew up skiing, and had always wanted to try snowboarding, but just never pulled the trigger. This year, I picked up a pair of the Burton AMB Snowboard Boots. They’re lightweight construction makes you feel as though you have nothing on your feet, which is key for freestyle riders. They feature a customized fit of Speed Zone lacing and a Wishbone upper cuff, allowing for perfect power and rebound.
