Chevrolet takes its off-road game to new heights with the introduction of the 2024 Silverado HD ZR2 and HD ZR2 Bison. The brand’s flagship heavy-duty off-roaders are ready to tow, haul, and conquer trails like never before. With a trio of flagship off-road performance pickups – the Colorado ZR2, Silverado 1500 ZR2, and now the Silverado HD ZR2 – Chevrolet is making it easier for adventurers to explore the great outdoors.
Race-Proven Off-Road Technologies: DSSV Dampers, Factory Lift, and More
The HD ZR2 and HD ZR2 Bison boast a defined set of upgrades built from Chevrolet’s off-road racing success. These trucks come equipped with specific front upper and lower control arms, steering knuckles, Multimatic DSSV dampers, larger steel transfer case skid plates, front aluminum skid plates, rear e-locker, and 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires on 18 x 9-inch aluminum wheels.
These race-proven off-road technologies ensure the Silverado HD ZR2 and HD ZR2 Bison can tackle a variety of terrains, from crawling trails to conquering tough landscapes, all without sacrificing comfort or capability.
A Powerful and Capable Off-Road Package
Offered exclusively in the 2500 Crew Cab configuration, the Silverado HD ZR2 and HD ZR2 Bison are available with a standard 6.6L gasoline engine or the optional 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel. The trucks are designed to handle heavy-duty tasks without sacrificing on-road comfort. The max payload for the Silverado HD ZR2 is 3,397 pounds, while the max trailering rating is an impressive 18,500 pounds when equipped with the Duramax Turbo-Diesel.
The Silverado HD ZR2 and HD ZR2 Bison also feature a new Off-Road Mode, which adjusts various vehicle calibrations, such as anti-lock brakes, traction control, stability control, throttle progression, and transmission shifts, to optimize their performance for off-road driving. The locking rear axle does not have a speed limitation, allowing for greater control and capability on the trails.
HD ZR2 Bison: American Expedition Vehicles Collaboration for Ultimate Capability
The HD ZR2 Bison features unique equipment from premium off-road aftermarket manufacturer American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), including exclusive gloss black 18-inch AEV wheels, distinctive cut high-approach stamped-steel front bumper with integrated recovery points and winch provisions, unique stamped-steel cut rear bumper with recovery points, and tough stamped steel underbody skid plates for added protection.
AEV’s collaboration with Chevrolet helps create a factory package for the most avid off-roaders, taking the HD ZR2’s standard features and raising the bar even higher for those seeking the ultimate capability in their adventures.

Redesigned Interior with ZR2 Flair
Both the HD ZR2 and ZR2 Bison sport a redesigned interior that offers a blend of premium materials and off-road prowess. The Jet Black and Graystone leather-appointed surfaces are complemented by dark trim accents, while a best-in-class 13.4-inch-diagonal infotainment screen and expansive 12.3-inch-diagonal configurable driver information center create a command center for the driver. The trucks also feature an available 15-inch Head-Up Display with an off-road inclinometer and HD Surround Vision.
The cabin’s design ensures efficiency with a redesigned wireless phone charger area and a flow-under console, offering the spaciousness of a bench seat while retaining the functionality of a center console. These thoughtful features create an ergonomic and comfortable space for drivers and passengers alike, making it easy to transition from a work-ready environment to an off-road adventure.
Recognizable ZR2 Family Styling
The HD ZR2 stands out with its distinctive ZR2 family front grille, which represents the expressive styling the ZR2 lineup values. Unique wheel opening moldings with integrated mud guards, ZR2 badging on the grille bar, and a higher stance further emphasize the HD ZR2’s off-road image. Both trucks also wear the “flow-tie” emblem, and the suspension is raised approximately 1.5 inches (38 mm) front and rear compared to other Silverado HD 4WD models.
Functional Features for Work and Play
The HD ZR2 and HD ZR2 Bison benefit from functional features shared across the Silverado HD range, such as the DuraBed cargo box that optimizes every square inch for maximum cargo capability, corner step rear bumper, BedSteps, power tailgate, a 120-volt power outlet, available six-position Multi-Flex tailgate, and more. These features make it easy for owners to switch between work and off-road adventures without missing a beat.
