The year began well. The Mayans were wrong, and those who ride open are always right. Especially since they now have a new toy available that claims to be the fastest four-seater convertible in the world. Indeed, with a top speed advertised at 201 Mph, the newest Bentley is not intended for wig holders. Brushings may take a hit. According to the British brand, 4.1 seconds for the 0 to 60 mph, 625 hp and pushes the indiscretion to communicate a combined fuel consumption of 15.79 MPG. In short, the Continental GT Speed Convertible is heavy, literally (5511 lbs) as figuratively. But, basically, is it really important?
As usual, this Bentley speaks to the senses of those who look or move with, not common sense. What counts is the roar of its W12, winning a few decibels and 50 BHP compared to the version that is not “speed”. Despite its monstrous performance, the Convertible remains as comfortable as a cozy sofa.
Aside the 21 inch rims, the mesh grille and darker tailpipes, nothing distinguishes this red-hot convertible from its matrix. The interior is equipped with a Mulliner pack, including a classy padded leather upholstery, and you have the choice between wood finish dashboard, brushed aluminum or carbon fiber. Finally, the least noble thing on board is the name of the eight-speed automatic transmission: it shares its surname “Quickshift” robotized gearboxes with single clutch (if I recall well) from the French car manufacturer Renault. Shocking!
