The Clubman was launched as an estate version of the standard Mini Cooper back in 2007, sharing the same platform and powertrain but with a longer body. One of the main distinguishing features of the Mini Clubman was its bi-parting doors at the rear and a unique backward-opening door for the rear passenger on the right side. With the second generation though, the Clubman didn’t get the rear door setup and instead got a unique 6-door setup including the tailgate doors, making it a lot more usable.
With its station wagon body style, the Clubman is also the biggest model released by the brand, focusing more on practicality than style. Finally, after almost 16 years on the market, Mini is giving the Clubman a farewell with the aptly named “Final Edition”.
One of the main reasons for its discontinuation is the limited sales numbers, making it the worst-performing model in the lineup. The 2024 Mini Cooper S Clubman Final Edition will be limited to just 1969 units, commemorating the launch year for the Clubman nameplate. The final edition will be limited to three paint options including Nanuq White, Enigmatic Black, and Melting Silver. The interior color scheme is also unique for the Final Edition.
Another notable difference is the graphics on the outside running along the hood and doors, outlining the classic Mini shape. The badging also gets a unique copper color, making it more unique from the outside.
Coming to the inside, the Final Edition gets updated interiors with dark brown leather, anthracite inserts, and “Final Edition” lettering on the steering wheel and door sills. Giving it a unique number from 1 to 1969, the floormats and dashboard will get badges reflecting the production number.
Under the hood, the final edition remains unchanged with a 2.0L inline-4 engine from BMW producing 189 hp, giving it plenty of performance for the city. Power is sent through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic to the front wheels. All-wheel drive is available as an option.
All the additions make the Final Edition dearer by nearly £5k, bringing the total price up to £37k and dangerously close to the JCW model that offers better performance. So far, there are no details on when the Final edition will reach U.S. shores and the official prices. However, the Clubman will be replaced by an all-electric crossover based on the Aceman concept in the next few years. This is in line with Mini’s plans of becoming all-electric by 2025.
Mini has already released some details about the Aceman EV like the base model producing 181 hp and a 40 kWh battery, while the higher trim will get a larger 54 kWh battery and a bump in power up to 215 hp. A larger Countryman EV is also in the pipeline with even larger battery packs and more range. Higher trim levels are also expected to get all-wheel-drive with dual motors.
The Clubman has always stood out in the segment with its unique design and rear doors. The extra length hasn’t dampened dynamics either; with a poky turbocharged engine, the Clubman corners confidently, providing plenty of fun through the twisties at the expense of ride comfort. The Clubman also makes use of its small footprint with plenty of cargo and passenger space. As expected, the interiors feel premium and unique with a chic design and circular elements reminiscent of the older Minis. Both rows can also seat even taller passengers in comfort. To boost practicality, the rear seats can be folded to liberate up to 44 cubic feet of space. While this is far less than some competitors, it is impressive for its small footprint and size.
Like all the latest offerings, the technology on offer is impressive with a premium infotainment system that includes features like Apple CarPlay and wireless charging as options. However, Android Auto is still sorely missed.
Safety is also a priority with the Mini Clubman, including a range of driver assistance features like forward collision warning, automated emergency braking, lane departure warning, traction control, and more as standard. Features like adaptive cruise control are also available.
Overall, the 2024 Mini Cooper S Clubman Final Edition still remains a unique choice in the segment for those looking for a charming and fun wagon, the features added on top of the standard model including the design updates make it even more appealing.
