Classic Recreations Shelby GT500CR Carbon Is a 1,000-HP Carbon-Fiber ’67 GT500

Classic Recreations unveiled the Shelby GT500CR Carbon at SEMA 2026: the only Shelby-licensed carbon-fiber 1967-68 GT500, with up to 1,000 HP from $549,900.

Some comebacks deserve a standing ovation, and Classic Recreations just staged one at SEMA. A year after Velocity Restorations pulled the builder out of Chapter 11 and renewed its Shelby license, the reborn shop unveiled the GT500CR Carbon, the only Shelby-licensed carbon-fiber 1967-68 GT500 on earth, with every body panel in exposed aerospace-grade carbon fiber and red-tinted carbon racing stripes, a treatment that cuts roughly 600 pounds off the steel original. I keep coming back to the spec sheet: a Wegner-built Gen IV Coyote 5.0-liter V8 with a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger, good for 1,000 horsepower in the SEMA show car, with production versions offered in 500, 700, and 900 horsepower stages and a Tremec six-speed manual for the three-pedal crowd. This one is for the collector who wants a vintage Shelby silhouette with modern supercar hardware and the registry paperwork to prove it. Production starts at $549,900, with 2026 slots nearly spoken for and 2027 allocations now open.
