If you happen to be an arcade-loving child of the ‘80s, you might be excited to hear that the first official trailer for the Rampage movie was released today. While the film will be including versions of those wonderfully destructive characters George, Lizzie, and Ralph, how they got to be the way they are is just one of the many differences between the beloved video game and its live-action counterpart.
This Rampage stars Dwayne Johnson as Davis Okoye, a primatologist who (of course) prefers to spend his time with animals rather than people. Long story short, experimental gene-editing gas capsules fall out of the sky, some animals including the albino silverback gorilla Davis once saved become giant, the government gets involved and botches things, said animals begin to destroy Chicago, aaaand it’s up to The Rock and his new friend Naomie Harris (as genetic engineer Dr. Kate Caldwell) to fix it. While ‘solid’ isn’t necessarily a word we would use to describe the plot, ‘nostalgic’ probably is—for whatever that might be worth. Hint: it’s the cost of a movie ticket.
Rampage is set to be released on April 20th, 2018. Check out the trailer above in the meantime. And if you’re looking for a reminder of just how much you loved that 8-bit game from your childhood, we’ve included some gameplay from that below as well.
