The Jack Daniel Distillery has been busy. Last week they announced the nationwide release of their first-ever barrel strength offering within the Single Barrel Collection, Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Barrel Proof.
Barrel Proof makes the second offering in the Single Barrel Collection, with a proof ranging from 125 to 140. Together, Select and Barrel Proof combine to create some of the finest Tennessee Whiskey you’ll ever taste. The collection uses Jack Daniel’s charcoal-mellowing process to create the signature depth and flavor that we all know and love from the brown elixir.
“As master distiller at Jack Daniel’s, I get the privilege of traveling to the top floors of our barrelhouses in Lynchburg and hand drilling individual barrels. This provides me the rare opportunity to taste Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey in its purest form; unfiltered and uncut,” said Jeff Arnett, Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller. “I’m always amazed at the intensity of the aromas and the deep amber colors, and yet at the same time, the exceptional smoothness of the whiskey at this higher proof point. After years of thinking about and discussing a barrel proof offering from Jack Daniel’s, we believe that now is the perfect time to make this available to all of our friends around the world. I’m confident that everyone will be as impressed as I was the first time I tasted this unique form of Single Barrel whiskey.”
Barrel Proof starts the same way all Jack Daniel’s products start. They use the cave spring water from the Jack Daniel’s Hollow and proprietary yeast and charcoal-mellowing process that has been used in the distillery for 150-years. From there, the liquid enters a charred White American Oak barrel which ages at the upper part of the barrelhouse. The whiskey is exposed to drastically different temperatures thanks to Lynchburg, Tennessee’s season changes, which gives Barrel Proof its unique flavors. While aging in the barrels, the whiskey’s synergy with the wood creates differences from barrel to barrel, pulling out distinct flavor profiles.

When tasting Barrel Proof you will experience a flavor range of vanilla and toasted oak. Though every barrel is slightly different, each will have a complex, yet smooth finish.
