The Z4 roadster will soon feel less lonely. In the coming years, BMW will launch a range of models by the digit “4”.
Starting with the BMW 4 Series Coupe announced for Detroit in January. If the name is new, the bases are known. They are in fact borrowed from the latest generation 3 Series.
In mind, the newcomer replaces the 3 Series Coupé. Just like the sedan, the format is revised upwards: the length goes from 4.58 m (15.03ft) to 4.64 (15.22ft), and the width is increased from 1.78 (5.84ft) to 1.82 m (5.87ft).
The Series 4 is a tad longer than its main rivals, the Audi A5 and Mercedes C-Class Coupé, while its predecessor was shorter than them. Only the height decreased by about an inch, a growing trend to promote fuel economy.
Don’t worry, M4 version appears well on schedule, with a promising six-cylinder turbo delivering about 450 BHP. Taking the example of her older sister Series 6, Series 4 will also be declined in convertible, which will have a retractable hardtop, and Gran Coupe, a sleek sedan profile.
