Each year when the NFL season kicks off, I immediately brace myself for the backlash I’ll get for rooting for my home team. Hey, I can’t help that I was born in New England and grew up a Patriots fan. Even though that’s the case, I will never hear the end of deflate gate and cheater this, cheater that from my buddy who is a Cowboys fan, born and raised in Texas. You would think I was the one deflating the balls with how much smack talk I receive.
The beauty of the NFL season though, despite my complaints above, is the comradery between fellow sports lovers. I’ve found this is most apparent when bonding around the grill.
Before heading over to my friend’s house, I ran by the store and picked up some Kingsford Charcoal, beer, a few steaks, and veggies for the grill. You just can’t be mad at one another if you’re surrounded by the delicious smell of BBQ and a few cold brews.
Despite his hate for my Patriots, and their win over the Steelers (28-21), I’d say we had a successful day bonding. My steaks were cooked to perfection, all thanks to his Kingsford charcoal grill. Let’s be honest, cooking on a gas grill never tastes the same, am I right?
Next Sunday, be sure to pickup the items I mentioned to help defuse the rivalry between you and your friends’ NFL teams. Just don’t forget the Kingsford ‘Original’ Charcoal.
