Apple’s New 14-Inch MacBook Pro with M6 Gets 24-Hour Battery and a Big AI Boost

Apple's new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 brings a 12-core CPU and GPU, up to 24 hours of battery, Wi-Fi 7, and a Liquid Retina XDR display. From $1,999, out November 6.

Apple announced the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 today, and the headline number is not a benchmark: it is 24 hours of battery life, the longest ever in a Mac. Under the hood sits the new M6 chip with a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, faster connectivity with Wi-Fi 7, and a much deeper AI story with macOS 27. Pre-orders open tomorrow, October 28, with availability starting Friday, November 6, from $1,999.

M6 makes the everyday fast and the heavy stuff faster

The M6 chip adds two CPU cores and two GPU cores over the previous generation, with Neural Accelerators in each GPU core and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says the 12-core CPU delivers the world’s fastest CPU core, and the GPU is up to 30 percent faster than M5, with up to 25 percent faster on-device AI workloads. Against M1, the gains are dramatic: Apple cites up to 11x faster graphics and up to 13x faster AI performance, plus up to 11.7x faster ray-traced rendering in Blender and up to 2.5x faster Xcode project builds. Those are Apple’s figures, and independent testing will fill in the gaps, but for students, developers, and creators who live on one machine, the message is that this is a serious step up, not a refresh.

Battery life is the real story

Performance means little if you are hunting for an outlet, and this is where the new MacBook Pro stands out. Apple rates it at up to 24 hours of battery life, with the same performance whether plugged in or on battery. For Intel-based upgraders, that is up to 14 additional hours; for M1 owners, up to four more. Memory starts at 16GB of unified memory, configurable up to 32GB, with bandwidth up to 170GB/s, so large projects and heavy multitasking stay smooth. Fast charging helps on the other end: up to 50 percent charge in 30 minutes with a compatible higher-wattage USB-C adapter, such as the 96W power adapter.

The pro hardware you already know, upgraded

Everything that made the 14-inch MacBook Pro popular carries over, with upgrades where they count. The Liquid Retina XDR display delivers up to 1600 nits of peak HDR brightness and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, with a nano-texture option for bright rooms. Connectivity now includes Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, plus three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, MagSafe 3, an SDXC card slot, and a headphone jack, with support for up to two external displays. The 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View, the studio-quality three-microphone array, and the six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio round out a machine that is as good on video calls as it is on a render. It comes in space black and silver, and the enclosure is 100 percent recycled aluminum.

macOS 27, Siri AI, and the AI angle

Like the new iMac, the MacBook Pro ships with macOS 27, headlined by Siri AI, a version of Siri Apple describes as profoundly more capable, conversational, and personal. Siri AI draws on personal context across messages, emails, and photos, answers questions on virtually any topic, and takes action across apps, all with on-device processing to preserve privacy. It lives in Spotlight and systemwide menus, and Visual Intelligence lets you ask about anything on your display. For developers and creators running local models, the Dual Neural Engine and the faster GPU make this a genuinely capable AI laptop, not just a laptop with AI features bolted on.

Price and availability

The new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 starts at $1,999, or $1,899 with education pricing. With Apple Upgrade, eligible U.S. customers can lease it from $38.99 per month for 36 months. Pre-orders open October 28, and it arrives November 6. If your current laptop is an Intel machine or an M1, this is the upgrade Apple has been building toward: big performance gains, the longest battery life a Mac has ever offered, and an AI platform that should hold up for years.
