Acer’s first gaming handheld to reach the US goes on sale today, November 1, exclusively at Best Buy, and the first preorder allocation already sold out. The Acer Predator Atlas 8 runs full Windows 11 on Intel’s Arc G3 Extreme chip with Arc B390 graphics, which puts it in a different conversation than the AMD handhelds that dominate the shelf, and closer to a gaming laptop you can hold than to a closed console. The US model pairs that chip with 24GB of memory and a 512GB SSD, an 8-inch 1920×1200 touchscreen at 120Hz with variable refresh rate, an 80Wh battery, dual Thunderbolt 4 ports, Wi-Fi 7, and a microSD slot for the library that will not fit on 512GB. I have not played one yet, so this is the launch picture, not a verdict. The math that stands out: at $1,299.99 it costs exactly $500 less than the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ with the same chip, but gives up 8GB of memory and half the storage. It lands at $1,299.99 at Best Buy, in Shale Black.
