DJI’s Osmo Pocket 4P Comes in Pearl White, and Americans Still Can’t Buy It

DJI's Osmo Pocket 4P lands in Pearl White on October 20. Dual cameras, 17 stops of dynamic range, and a US ban that keeps it a museum piece for American buyers.

DJI picked a strange way to remind me my wallet is safe: a 14-second teaser for the Osmo Pocket 4P in Pearl White, arriving October 20. It looks great. I can’t buy it. Neither can you, if you’re reading this in the States.

The frustrating part is that this thing has existed for months. The Pocket 4P launched in China back in June and spread across Europe, Canada, and Australia over the summer. On paper it’s the best pocket gimbal DJI has ever made: a 1-inch main sensor with a 20mm f/2.0 lens, plus a second 1/1.28-inch sensor behind a 3x telephoto. Seventeen stops of dynamic range, 4K slow motion at 240 frames per second, D-Log 2 and 10-bit color for grading. The 2-inch OLED pushes 1,000 nits so you can actually see it in daylight. Storage is 103GB built in with a microSD slot to 1TB, and the battery runs 210 minutes, hitting 80 percent charge in 18 minutes.

I shoot most of my travel video on a Pocket 3, so the upgrade math is personal: the telephoto alone would change how I shoot walk-and-talks and B-roll. In China the 4P starts at 3,799 yuan, roughly $562, with a Vlog combo around $636.

But DJI has sat on the FCC’s Covered List since last December, and the US “notify me” page for the 4P just 404s. No US price, no US date, no sign either is coming. Europe pays 599 euros for the standard combo.

So October 20 is a launch I get to watch like a museum exhibit. If you need a pocket gimbal today and you live here, the Pocket 3 is the one you can actually buy. I’ll keep the 4P on the wishlist until Washington and DJI sort themselves out.
