If you follow my Instagram, you know I travel a lot. I practically spend more time in an airplane than my apartment in Los Angeles. So I like to think I know a thing or two about packing a carry on bag. Below you will find my list of things I have in my carry on at all times.. candy included!
1. Light Jacket or Sweater
It doesn’t matter if your destination is hotter than where you started, airplanes are notoriously chilly. The last thing you want on a long flight is to be shivering because you’re cold. I like to bring a light sweater or jacket in case they run out of blankets on the flight. You should also know that some airplanes don’t have blankets due to lack of storage or man power to help clean up after the flight. Don’t assume they’ll be able to keep you warm.
2. Noise-Cancelling Headphones
Even if everyone on your flight was quiet, which they never are, the plane is still quite loud. To block out the drunk guy in front of you, the crying baby behind you, and the belly-laughing guy beside you, try a pair of noise-cancelling headphones. Any brand will do, and you will thank me later.
3. A Good Snack!
Let’s face it; the peanuts and pretzels they give you on a flight is tiny and could barely feed a mouse. And if you’re hungry enough to purchase from the in-flight menu, well, you’re a brave soul who doesn’t mind shelling out over ten dollars for mediocre food. This is why I ALWAYS pack a fun snack like a Nestlé® Crunch® bar or Buncha Crunch® candies.
Nestlé® Crunch® is a candy we all grew up with. I remember as a kid always begging my mom to pickup a few from the store before we went on any long adventures, whether it was a road trip or plane ride. How could she say no to rich, real milk chocolate combined with light crispy rice?
4. A Book or E-Reader
If you’re like me, more often than not you make the excuse of never having time to read the book sitting on your shelf. Well, I hate to break it to you but you don’t really have much of an excuse when traveling on a flight for 3+ hours. This is the best time to do it, so brush off the dust on that book and/or charge up your e-reader.
5. Sunglasses
This always seemed like a silly idea to me. In fact, I was the person judging others for wearing their sunglasses on a plane. That is until I did it myself and had a major lightbulb moment. How many times have you been sitting on a plane, minding your own business, and then all of a sudden the person across from you decides it’s a good time to open up the window? Instant blindness. Having your sunglasses on will save you from having your eyes involuntarily flashed by the bright sun. It also works as a good way to avoid having to make small talk with people. No one is going to bother someone with a pair of shades on.
