Nivata Koh Samui Opens on the Island’s Quiet Side

Nivata Koh Samui, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, opens November 7, 2026 on Taling Ngam Beach with 78 rooms and villas, two pools, and three dining venues.

Koh Samui has two speeds. There is the Chaweng side, with its beach clubs, its crowds, and its neon. Then there is the southwest coast, where the island slows down and the sunsets do the talking. Today, November 7, a new boutique resort opens on that quieter side, and it is the kind of opening that caught my eye for one simple reason. It is built around the Koh Samui most travelers never slow down long enough to see.

Nivata Koh Samui, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, begins welcoming guests today on Taling Ngam Beach. The 78-room-and-villa resort has a beachfront infinity pool, a 72-metre lazy pool, and three places to eat and drink, all set on the island’s tranquil southwest coast. I have not stayed here yet. Nobody has, it opens today. So this is a first look at what is on offer and why it belongs on the list for a future Thailand trip.

The quiet side of Koh Samui

Taling Ngam sits on the southwestern tip of Koh Samui, facing the Gulf of Thailand and looking out toward Tean Island and Ko Mat Sum. It is the side of the island where fishing boats still outnumber beach clubs, and the sunsets are the main event. The resort is about 45 minutes by car from Samui International Airport, and the Elephant Gate and Wat Khiri Wongkaram are about five kilometres away.

The name tells you what the place is going for. Nivata comes from the Sanskrit word nivata, meaning sheltered from the wind, a name that fits a resort built around calm, refuge, and sanctuary. The story runs deeper than the name. Taling Ngam has a long connection with seafarers, fishermen, and traders, and an ancient ceremonial bronze drum discovered at nearby Wat Khiri Wongkaram, engraved with the sun, boats, and birds, provides the creative thread for the whole guest experience.

“Nivata invites guests to discover a quieter side of Koh Samui, where beachfront living and local heritage come together,” said Govnd Joshi, General Manager of Nivata Koh Samui, Tapestry Collection by Hilton. “Inspired by the stories of Taling Ngam and the independent spirit of Tapestry Collection, we look forward to welcoming guests to a stay that feels genuinely connected to this place.”

Rooms and villas

Across two floors, the resort offers 78 guestrooms and villas in 10 accommodation categories, designed in calm, natural tones with locally inspired details. The 66 guestrooms range from 26 to 42 square metres, with garden, mountain, pool, and ocean views. Twenty-four of them are pool-access rooms, the kind where you step out of your door and straight into the water.

The 12 villas are the top of the range. Eleven come with private plunge pools, and one beachfront villa has its own pool and direct beach access. It is a small resort by Koh Samui standards, and that is the point. Seventy-eight keys means the pool never feels crowded and the beach never feels shared with a thousand strangers.

Two pools and a beach

The beachfront infinity pool looks straight out over the sea, and it is the obvious place to spend a slow morning or a sunset afternoon. Then there is the 72-metre lazy pool, which winds through the resort itself, a slow float rather than a lap lane. Add a fitness centre, direct beach access, concierge service, and in-room dining, and the resort covers the basics without trying to be everything to everyone.

The beachfront setting also lends itself to intimate weddings and private celebrations at sunset, and the resort has space set aside for gatherings. If you are planning something small and scenic, this is that kind of place.

Three places to eat and drink

Three dining and drinking venues, each with its own personality. Saboey Lobby Lounge takes its inspiration from the island’s heritage and its early connections with Hainanese traders, a relaxed gathering place for light bites, snacks, and coffee throughout the day.

MAZU is the signature oceanfront venue, and the one I would head to first. It pairs views across the Gulf of Thailand with crafted cocktails, including the MAZU Spritzer, a blend of white rum, Aperol, watermelon, lemon, and coconut. The kitchen leans into Southern Thai specialties, including Khua Kling Gai, a spicy stir-fried chicken dish made with homemade Southern curry paste, and Choo Chee Seabass with a fragrant coconut-based curry sauce. Its beachfront setting is built for sunset drinks and slow evenings.

Cocos Pool Bar sits beside the pool among the coconut palms, serving chilled refreshments, light bites, and tropical cocktails, including the Island Margarita, made with tequila, fresh coconut juice, lemon, and vanilla syrup.

Getting there and what it costs

Samui International Airport is about 45 minutes away by car, and the resort sits at 114/1 Moo 4, Taling Ngam Beach, Koh Samui. To celebrate the opening, the resort is running two introductory offers for the first 100 eligible bookings, and both are worth knowing about if your dates are flexible.

The Nivata Opening Escape offers room-only stays starting from THB 3,999 per room per night, with reservations open until December 15, 2026, for stays from November 7, 2026, through March 2027. For a longer retreat, Stay Longer, Experience More starts from THB 4,299 per room per night for a minimum of five consecutive nights, including daily breakfast for up to two guests, with reservations open until December 15, 2026, for stays through May 31, 2027. Both offers are subject to availability and terms and conditions, so check the fine print before you book.

The resort participates in Hilton Honors, so members who book directly can earn and redeem points, access member discounts, and use Digital Check-In and Digital Key through the Hilton Honors app.

Who it is for

This is a resort for travelers who want Thailand at a slower pace. Couples looking for a quiet beachfront base, anyone who has done Chaweng and wants the other side of the island, and sunset chasers who plan their evenings around golden hour will feel at home here. It is also a natural fit for a small wedding or a private celebration, given the beachfront setting and the space for intimate gatherings.

If the idea of a small, design-led boutique stay appeals to you, it is worth a look at how the boutique hotel wave keeps growing, from Croatia to Southeast Asia. And if Thailand is already on your list, this is one more reason to start planning.

The verdict, for now, is simple. Nivata Koh Samui opens today on the quiet side of one of Thailand’s most visited islands, with a strong sense of place, two pools, three good-looking venues, and opening rates that make the first few months the cheapest time to try it. I have not stayed here yet, and I will not pretend otherwise. But it is on my list for the next Thailand trip, and if the photos are anything to go by, Taling Ngam is the side of Koh Samui worth slowing down for.
