Luc Besson is known for some killer films, namely The Fifth Element, The Professional, and the Transporter series (I have deliberately not sited Taken…). The Family brings an all star cast to a fish out of water comedy, where an elite mob family struggles with life in the Witness Protection Program. This may be the comedic follow up to a film like GoodFellas, but mafia funny has had some wonderful successes in the past. Must I remind you of Analyze This (and that), Mickey Blue Eyes, and this may be a stretch, but the all time great Johnny Dangerously? The star power in this film doesn’t seem too great to be compensating for lack of story or any other shortcomings. Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Tommy Lee Jones, and young miss Dianna Agron from Glee head this film up, and with Luc Besson at the helm, I’m definitely going to give it a chance. It’s out on September 13th (Friday the 13th that is).
