Skies were grey last weekend as eager NASCAR fans filled the Texas Motor Speedway in Forth Worth, Texas. With the 8th race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup only hours away it was crunch-time for all members of the pit and garage. Missed out on the excitement? Continue reading for a recap of this year’s AAA Texas 500 and our time spent shadowing Kelley Blue Book driver, Chase Elliott.
Upon arriving at the stadium we beelined it to the Kelley Blue Book garage to see where the magic happens. Much like boxing, weight is pivotal in NASCAR. Garage technicians constantly monitor their stock car’s weight with the addition and subtraction of every gear, axle, and tire.
What happened next, was truly one for the record books. I mean, it’s not everyday you have a chance to walk down the red carpet with professional drivers, team owners, and curious reality stars (Duck Dynasty, anyone?). The fans were hyped, hungry for a chance to meet their favorite drivers. And while there weren’t any Ricky Bobby sightings, we did manage to meet Chuck Norris.
Waving the Checkered Flag
With pre-race ceremonies behind us, it was time to see NASCAR at work. There was shouting, shuffling and cars being pulled out. The race was not too far off, and everyone knew it. That was until it started pouring. So much so, the race was postponed nearly six hours and cut short to 41 laps! Chase Elliott had quite the race, overcoming the rain and a battle with the flu. The No. 24 Chevrolet SS driver raced on finishing the night in fourth place (with 38 points).
Still need to satisfy your need for speed? Watch Chase Elliott this Sunday as he hops in his #KBB24 race car and takes on the Can-Am 500.
Editors Note: Chase Elliott may have given Armando the flu. That’s truly one for the record books.
