Let’s be honest, we all have a lot going on. Between trying to earn a paycheck, keeping our homes at least clean enough to live in, taking care of ourselves and maybe others, and making an attempt at a social life (hah!) it’s hard to make time to stop and smell the roses. Or, in the same vein, stop and notice the coffee lids. “What’s so special about coffee lids that they could be compared to a rose like this?” you ask. Turns out, enough to write a whole book about.
Coffee Lids: Peel, Pinch, Pucker, Puncture is a coffee table book all about the plethora of designs, details, and differences of those interesting objects called disposable plastic coffee lids. You might be inclined to think it’s not the most interesting of topics at first. And you’d be forgiven. However, once you realize just how little you know about the work that goes into these everyday items, you’re sure to change your tune.
The piece was put together by Louise Harpman and Scott Specht who, between the two of them, have the largest collection of independently patented coffee lids in the world. So it’s safe to say they know their stuff. Check out the video below of Harpman giving a talk on the subject, and showing us a few of her faves.
