Actors Alexa and Carlos PenaVega, with Son Ocean, hosted a celebration to remember at the cruise line’s new Terminal A in Miami. The official naming ceremony of the ‘Symphony of the Seas’, Royal Caribbean‘s newest ship – also the world’s largest – came just a day after my two day press preview, where I sailed from Miami to Nassau, Bahamas for the day and back.
The ceremony was monumental for many reasons. Mainly for the PenaVega family, who is Royal Caribbean’s first-ever Godfamily. I actually met them four years ago on the Quantum of the Seas sailing and can tell you that they are more than just a celebrity endorsement. They are true Royal fans and it shows through their social posts.
Nearly 1,000 guests were in attendance when the Symphony of the Seas was christened dockside at PortMiami, making it Royal Caribbean’s largest naming ceremony in history. Guests were treated to an electronic violinist throughout the ceremony and a sail away performance by nearly 400 choreographed drones. Additionally, Florida International University’s Marching Band kicked off the celebration, while students from Miami Southridge Senior High headlined the occasion on stage with a drumline performance.
Symphony joins its sister ship Allure of the Seas at Royal Caribbean’s new Terminal A, which will sail 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean with featured visits to Perfect Day at CocoCay, the global cruise line’s newly revealed private destination in The Bahamas. The state-of-the-art terminal is expected to see around 1.8 million guests at PortMiami.
