Expert Guidance: Astronomy and Astrophysics with Prof. Adam Burgasser
In collaboration with the University of California San Diego, Holland America Line will have Professor Adam Burgasser onboard Koningsdam to provide guidance and education about this rare event. Burgasser, a professor of astronomy and astrophysics, will be at hand to share his wealth of knowledge with eager guests.
Burgasser will be preparing guests for the eclipse with special lectures at the ship’s World Stage. As the main event draws near, he’ll assist with the creation of personal eclipse viewers, and during the eclipse itself, Burgasser will guide the observation and interpretation of the event from strategic points on the ship. It’s an unparalleled opportunity to learn about the 2024 solar eclipse from a renowned physicist.
The Ultimate 2024 Solar Eclipse Experience
Embarking on the 22-day Solar Eclipse Cruise on April 5, Koningsdam will position itself along the coast of Mexico for an optimal view of the eclipse before setting sail across the Pacific Ocean to Hawaii. The journey will commence in San Diego, stopover in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and pause for the day at sea on April 8 to witness the eclipse. The ship will then dock at Puerto Vallarta in Mexico before crossing over to Hawaii.
Meanwhile, Zaandam will host guest presenter Jim McParland, an expert in the field, who will contribute to the eclipse experience with his insightful lectures and demonstrations. Departing from San Diego on March 30, the 14-day Solar Eclipse Cruise will position Zaandam for a full view of the eclipse as it travels over Mexico. On the day of the eclipse, the ship will be stationed in Mazatlán, Mexico.
