Triumph has given its biggest adventure bike its first major update since 2022, and the headline feature is one every shorter rider will immediately understand. The 2027 Tiger 1200 lowers itself when you come to a stop, then rises back up when you pull away. It also gains more power, a full front and rear radar system, and a new touchscreen. Four models make up the range: GT Pro, Rally Pro, GT Explorer, and Rally Explorer. The range starts at $22,995 and reaches dealers this December.
A stronger, smoother triple
The updated 1,160cc T-Plane triple makes a claimed 155.8 horsepower at 9,250 rpm, up 7.9 horsepower over the outgoing bike, with peak torque of 130 Nm at 6,750 rpm. Triumph says more torque is available lower in the rev range, and the gains come from a redesigned cylinder head, new pistons, lighter inlet and exhaust valves, revised fuel injection, and a freer-flowing exhaust. First, second, and third gear ratios are revised, and the six-speed gearbox and shaft drive are reworked for quieter operation and smoother transitions between acceleration and deceleration. Combined with revised primary and final-drive ratios, crawl speed drops by 3.7 mph, which should make tight technical maneuvers and heavy traffic noticeably easier.
It lowers itself when you stop
The updated Showa Eera Heightflex semi-active suspension offers firm, medium, and soft damping settings plus a hydraulic secondary bump stop. Its new trick is automatic ride height: the seat drops 1.18 inches when you stop, then restores standard height as you pull away. With the optional low seat, seat height can go as low as 31.1 inches at a standstill. That is a genuine confidence builder for newer and shorter riders, and it beats the old manually activated preload-reduction system in exactly the moment it matters, at a stoplight with a loaded bike. The front gets a 49mm upside-down fork and the rear a monoshock with self-levelling preload, both with 200mm of wheel travel.
Radar, a new screen, and a controversial wheel change
The bike gains a full front and rear Bosch radar system with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, emergency brake assist, blind spot assist, rear distance warning, group ride assist, riding distance assist, overtake assist, and curve speed control, plus ABS and traction control. A new Bosch 7-inch high-definition TFT touchscreen works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a cooled phone compartment with USB-C charging sits on the fuel tank. The updated LED projector headlight adds adaptive cornering illumination, activating extra lighting elements as the bike leans at 15 and 30 degrees.
GT models keep cast aluminum wheels for a street focus, while Rally versions get side-laced spoked wheels, an Off-Road Pro ride mode, engine guards, and an adjustable folding brake pedal. Pro models carry a 5.3-gallon tank; Explorer variants are set up for longer-distance touring with a 7.9-gallon tank, a tire pressure monitoring system, lower engine bars, and higher, wider handlebars. Brembo Stylema brakes are standard across the range.
One change will ruffle feathers: the entire range moves to a road-biased 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel combination. That is a step down for the Rally models, which drop from a 21/18 setup and from 220mm of suspension travel to 200mm. Triumph says the shift, made in response to customer feedback, improves road handling while remaining capable off the beaten path. Serious off-roaders who loved the big front wheel may disagree, but the rest of the package is strong enough that most will still want a test ride.
The range and the price
The 2027 Triumph Tiger 1200 range, GT Pro, Rally Pro, GT Explorer, and Rally Explorer, starts at $22,995 and begins rolling into dealerships this December. Individual pricing runs $22,995 for the GT Pro, $23,995 for the Rally Pro, $24,995 for the GT Explorer, and $25,995 for the Rally Explorer. For a flagship adventure motorcycle that now parks itself at a friendlier height and watches your blind spots, that starting price looks like a serious value play against the big German and Italian rivals.
