Porsche couldn’t keep the Mission S quiet for one more day. Hours before today’s 3:30 PM Eastern reveal, the first photo leaked: the rear of the car, shot from above a courtyard wall, showing a wide muscular tail, slim LED taillights, quad exhausts stacked vertically in pairs, and a glass roof treatment that borrows from the Bugatti Chiron playbook. There’s a top-mounted fan on the engine cover, a straight nod to the 917.
What Porsche has actually confirmed comes from its teasers: the tachometer sweeps to 8,000 rpm, with Normal, Sport, and Track modes, and the Mission S rides on a new mid-engined platform built to sit above the 911. Porsche calls it “our tribute to the sports car.” The German press rumor mill says the engine is an all-new flat-eight, which would be Porsche’s first in a production car. The 908 racer ran one in the late sixties and nothing since.
The context is the story. The Mission X concept from 2023 was fully electric. The Mission S going combustion, or at least combustion-first, is Porsche reading the room: the halo car should make noise. This is the spiritual-successor slot to the Carrera GT and 918 Spyder, the internal codename is reportedly S1, and pricing chatter sits around 500,000 euros.
I’ll update this once the full reveal lands and we trade courtyard spy shots for real specs.
