Four Roses doesn’t do things quietly, and the Anthology series is no exception. The brand’s new ultra-premium annual release kicks off with Chapter One: Origin, a 21-year-old barrel-strength bourbon that’s the oldest the distillery has ever put on the market. That alone makes it worth paying attention to.
The name is intentional. Origin pulls the story back to 1888, when founder Paul Jones Jr. reportedly named the brand after a romantic gesture that’s become part of bourbon folklore. Distilled in 2002, the whiskey spent over two decades in the barrel before being transferred to stainless steel vats for preservation, then bottled as a barrel-strength OBSF mash bill at proof ranging from 102.5 to 124.9. Available in 750ml bottles, it’s priced and positioned for collectors who track the Four Roses limited release calendar closely.
Whether Chapter Two lives up to the opening is the real question — but Origin sets a high bar.
