The MA-1 is one of those jackets that never really leaves. Alpha Industries, the company that made the original for the military, just gave it a proper upgrade with the MA-1 3M Base Bomber.
The shell is 100% flight nylon, backed by 3M Thinsulate insulation that keeps it warm without turning it into a bulky winter coat. The Core Fit keeps the relaxed proportions of the original, with anti-pilling ribbed cuffs and a wider wind flap for when the temperature drops.
The best trick: the whole jacket reverses to reveal a puffer-style lining, so you’re getting two completely different looks in one. Two interior and two exterior pockets (magnetic closures on the outside), the classic sleeve utility pocket with a carabiner-mounted “Remove Before Flight” tag, and subtle Alpha embroidery round it out.
At $385, it’s a smart refresh of a military classic. Recognizable enough for the purists, different enough to justify the closet space.
