The most expensive G-Shock ever made is carved from gemstone. Casio’s MRG-D5000 Blue Sapphire marks 30 years of the MR-G line with a 43.2mm case and bezel assembled from separate blue sapphire pieces, interlocked through kigumi, the Japanese joinery technique that holds timber together without nails. Casio spent years on the engineering because screws can crack the stone. Under the sapphire sits a DLC-coated Grade 5 titanium core, the dial lettering is 24-karat gold, and the titanium caseback carries a sapphire crystal stamped with the watch’s individual edition number. Each of the twenty pieces worldwide is hand-assembled at Casio’s Yamagata factory, with six reserved for the U.S. Tough Solar and 200-meter water resistance are in there too, which is the best part: underneath it all, this is still a G-Shock, just one that costs $80,000.
Casio's $80,000 MRG-D5000 Blue Sapphire is the most expensive G-Shock ever: sapphire case and bezel with kigumi joinery, 24k gold dial, 20 pieces.
