Timex is marking 40 years of the Ironman with a faithful reissue of the original 1986 8-Lap, a throwback that doesn’t modernize what it celebrates. The 39mm gray-coated resin case keeps the black bezel with four exposed screws, the tonal gray and black palette with orange, white, and blue details, and the black rubber accordion strap with a steel pin buckle. Inside it’s the same toolkit: chronograph, countdown timer, calendar, hour chime, up to three alarms, 8-lap memory, and a pusher backlight that predates Indiglo, all wrapped in 100 meters of water resistance.

The lineage runs back to designer John T. Houlihan and the 1984 Triathlon watch Timex built with Ironman race staff, rebranded as the Ironman in 1986. The reissue lands November 3 from Timex at $109, which about matches the original’s $35 price adjusted for inflation. Don’t confuse it with the frosted Hodinkee limited edition from April, a $135 run of 2,000 pieces. This is the standard version, the faithful one, not one of the T80 sets Timex has been doing lately.
