Getting to know the locals is important because there are going to be people that you’ll rely on for things when you’re over there. It’s just like any neighborhood in that it’s good to know people and to get friendly with them. By taking the time and effort to meet people and socialize, it’s going to hopefully help you out during those first few weeks and months in a foreign place.
