I’ve been eyeing Nayarit for a while now. The idea of unwinding on a rugged beach, trekking through jungle, and diving into culture-rich towns sounds exactly like the kind of summer I want. After digging into everything the state offers, it’s moved right to the top of my travel list.

Nearly 200 Miles of Beach Bliss

Nayarit Nearly 200 Miles of Beach Bliss

I’m a beach person. Give me sand, salt air, and somewhere to watch the waves, and I’m happy. Nayarit’s coastline stretches for nearly 200 miles and includes over two dozen beach towns. I’m especially drawn to places like Sayulita and San Pancho for their energy, and Punta Mita for something more laid-back.

Summer seems like the perfect time to explore the water, too. With the best visibility for snorkeling and diving, plus surf-ready waves at Playa San Panch during International Surfing Day in June, I’d have plenty to do.

Adventures in the Sierra Madre

I’m always looking for a bit of adventure when I travel, and Nayarit delivers. Between ziplining through jungle canopies, hiking to waterfalls, and even whale watching off the coast, there’s no shortage of ways to stay active. The terrain is so varied that you can go from the ocean to the mountains in a single afternoon.

Culture You Can Actually Feel

Nayarit isn’t just beaches and resorts. What really draws me in is its cultural depth. The markets in Tepic, the handmade crafts, the Huichol art—I want to experience all of it. There’s something grounding about visiting places where traditions are still part of everyday life.

Also worth noting: Nayarit has more “Magical Towns” than any other state in Mexico. Each one is recognized for its cultural significance, beauty, and history. I’d love to explore places like Jala and Mexcaltitan and get a sense of what gives each town its unique identity.

A Place to Splurge Smart

Normally, I avoid luxury resorts during peak travel times, but Nayarit in summer might be the exception. The deals seem too good to pass up, with lower prices on five-star stays and extra value packed in. Whether it’s a villa facing the ocean or a resort tucked into the jungle, it’s the kind of indulgence that feels worth it.

Many resorts also offer experiences beyond the spa and pool—like guided tours, access to nearby markets, and even water sports. It sounds like a full vacation built into one place.

Top-Tier Golf, if That’s Your Thing

If I bring someone who golfs, they’ll be set. With nine world-class courses designed by the biggest names in golf, Nayarit isn’t playing around. I’m not a golfer, but I’d ride along just for the views of the Bay of Banderas and the Pacific coastline.

A Natural Setting for Wellness

I’ve started prioritizing trips that leave me feeling better, not just entertained. Nayarit sounds like the ideal place for that kind of reset. From high-end spas in Punta de Mita to yoga retreats in Sayulita, there’s plenty of opportunity to unplug. I’m especially interested in the idea of filling my days with fresh food, ocean swims, and time in the mountains.

Nayarit checks every box: beaches, culture, adventure, wellness, and just the right amount of luxury. I’ve been wanting to go for a while, and this summer might finally be the time. If I do, you can bet I’ll be sharing every bit of the experience.
