Garmin just rebuilt the bottom of its running watch lineup. The Forerunner 70 replaces the long-running Forerunner 55 and brings an AMOLED screen to Garmin’s entry tier for the first time, while the Forerunner 170 steps in as the successor to the Forerunner 165. Both run a 1.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen in a 43mm fiber-reinforced polymer case, keep the five physical buttons runners actually want mid-workout, and rate to 50 meters of water resistance. The 170 adds Garmin Pay, Training Readiness scores, course planning, and Health Status, plus a Music variant with offline playlist downloads. Battery life on the 170 runs up to 10 days in smartwatch mode. The catch is price: Garmin pushed every tier up $50, so the Forerunner 70 starts at $249.99, the standard 170 at $299.99, and the 170 Music at $349.99. All three are on sale now at Garmin.com.
