Some auction lots are art. Some are cars. This one is 19.6 feet of tyrannosaur.
Jodi is one of only three known Nanotyrannus skeletons in existence, pulled from Montana’s Hell Creek Formation in 2019 by rancher Jodi Pierson. The mounted skeleton stands 6.5 feet tall and runs nearly 20 feet long, built from around 191 fossil elements including a near-complete skull with roughly 35 teeth and a complete pelvis.
The backstory is half the fun. The excavation was filmed for Discovery’s Dino Hunters, and the skeleton was exhibited at Frieze in 2023 as a juvenile T. rex, before a 2025 study confirmed Nanotyrannus as its own species, one that grew to about half the length of a T. rex.
Now it’s up for auction at Sotheby’s with bidding starting at $6 million. Start saving.
