Roy Lichtenstein’s “Temple” Lithograph Is Up for Auction at $10,000+

A signed 1964 Roy Lichtenstein "Temple" lithograph, edition 230 of 300, is up for auction at Heritage Auctions. Framed, fresh colors, bidding from $10,000.

Pop art doesn’t come much more accessible than Lichtenstein. Before the paintings started trading for nine figures, there were prints like this one, and they remain one of the most honest ways into the market.

This is “Temple” from 1964, a color offset lithograph on cream paper published by Leo Castelli Gallery in New York. It’s number 230 from an edition of 300, signed and dated in pencil at the lower right. The sheet measures 23 3/4 by 17 5/8 inches, and the colors look remarkably fresh. Condition notes mention only light wear: minor handling dents, some foxing on the back, and a small repair on the lower left edge. It comes hinged, matted, and framed under acrylic.

Bidding starts at $10,000 at Heritage Auctions. For a signed Lichtenstein from the year pop art went mainstream, that’s the kind of entry point that won’t sit around for long. I’ve watched auction drama do strange things to prices before, like the Banksy that shredded itself the moment the gavel fell, so don’t assume this stays near the opening bid.
