Ford’s Mustang Mach-E Trail Is an Electric Crossover for the Dirt Road to the Campsite

Ford's $2,295 Mach-E Trail package adds Rally hardware, a small lift, and camp power to the Select eAWD. Orders open now, arrivals Q1 2027.

Ford’s newest Mustang Mach-E is not a new trim and not a new model. It is a $2,295 factory package for the Select all-wheel-drive Mach-E. It answers one specific question: can an electric crossover handle the dirt road to the campsite? The 2027 Mustang Mach-E Trail borrows its hardware from the Mach-E Rally. It adds a small lift. It also throws in power outlets for camp gear. I have not driven the Trail yet, and no one outside Ford has. But the package itself is refreshingly honest about what it is for. It is for gravel, sand, two-track dirt, and winter roads, not rock crawling. Order banks opened October 22, 2026. The first Trail models are expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2027.

What the Trail package actually adds

The Trail starts with suspension. Ford fits specially tuned passive front and rear struts and springs. They raise ride height 10 mm in front and 15 mm in the rear. That compares with the Select and Premium models. That is roughly four tenths of an inch up front and six tenths at the back. It is enough to notice on a rutted access road. It is not enough to change how the car drives on pavement. The steering rack comes straight from the Mach-E Rally. So do the 19-inch High Gloss Dark Carbonized Gray wheels with as-cast graphics. So do the 235/55 R19 Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires. That Rally link is where the Trail’s credibility comes from. Ford’s engineering lead on the project is Nick Rallis. He framed the targets plainly: loose gravel, sand, two-track dirt roads, and winter traction.

The rest of the package is about the destination. Standard 400W Pro Power Onboard puts outlets in the cargo area. It also puts outlets at the rear of the center console. That is enough to run a paddleboard pump, camp lights, a fan, or a bike tire pump. A Carbon Black lower front fascia marks it out from a regular Select. So do bodyside graphics and a Mach-E Trail logo on the center armrest. They do not turn it into a styling exercise. A Thule Clamp-On Cross Bar Kit adds room for bikes, kayaks, and cargo boxes. It is sold through Ford’s accessories site. An optional Interior Protection Package brings all-weather floor mats. It also brings a cargo-area protector. Trail buyers also get 100,000 bonus Ford Rewards points. That is on top of the 22,000 points every Mach-E buyer receives.

Trail versus Rally, by the numbers

Here is the comparison that makes the Trail make sense. The Trail package costs $2,295. It requires the Select eAWD, which starts at $42,995 before destination. That puts a Trail at $45,290 before destination. The Mach-E Rally starts at $55,290. The gap is exactly $10,000. It buys you a clear trade. The Rally gets a full inch of lift and the performance brief. The Trail gets roughly half that lift and the practical kit. If your weekends end at a trailhead rather than a starting line, the Trail keeps the gravel hardware. It also pockets the difference. If you want the flagship, the Rally is still there.

The wider 2027 Mach-E lineup

The Trail leads a broader update worth knowing about. For the first time, an extended-range battery is standard across the entire 2027 Mach-E lineup. Select and Premium get 88 kWh of usable capacity. GT and Rally get 91 kWh. The Select rear-wheel-drive model starts at $39,995 before destination. That puts an extended-range Mach-E just under $40,000. A redesigned front drive unit on all-wheel-drive models helps. It delivers the same performance at lower cost. Two things to know before ordering: final EPA range figures have not been announced yet. They will land closer to availability. And BlueCruise 1.5 is optional on the Trail. But the hardware must be selected when the vehicle is ordered. It cannot be added later. The Build and Price tool opens early in 2027. So for now ordering runs through a dealer.

Buyers whose adventures start on pavement and end on gravel should take note. This is the most interesting $2,295 in the EV market right now. It does not pretend to be an off-roader. That restraint is exactly why it works.

Questions People Ask About the Mustang Mach-E Trail

Can the Trail package be added to a Mach-E you already own?

No. The Trail is a factory-built package, not a dealer-installed kit and not a limited run. It has to be ordered as part of a new Select eAWD build. The suspension, wheels, tires, and power system are engineered in from the start.

Does the Trail change the Mach-E’s range?

Ford has not published final EPA range figures for the 2027 lineup yet. The Select models now carry the 88 kWh extended-range battery as standard. Official range numbers will be announced closer to availability.

Is BlueCruise available with the Trail?

Yes, as an option. The catch is timing. The required BlueCruise hardware must be selected when the vehicle is ordered. It cannot be retrofitted later.
