Getting to Know Don Q Oak Barrel Spiced Rum + Recipe
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Don Q rum. All opinions are 100% mine.
I’m not sure what this says about me, but one of the things I love the most is to crack open a bottle of rum I’ve yet to try. There’s a certain anticipation about what it will taste like and whether or not it will remind me of something I’ve experienced before during my travels. I’m sure I’m not the only one who loves to reminisce over a glass with some good friends.
Over the next two months, I’m happy to announce I’m partnering with Don Q. Their heritage dates back to 1865; that’s over 150 years and six generations of rum making in the Serrallés family. During this time they not only invested a significant amount of time mastering the art of rum making but also turning their distillery into one of the most environmentally responsible and greenest facilities in the spirits industry. While this in itself is a huge accomplishment, certainly worth a glass of Don Q on the rocks, I think what the big take away here is the fact that they are helping their beautiful island of Puerto Rico. They’re one of the few distilleries in the world not dumping their wastewater in the ocean, which helps their people and wildlife thrive. Cheers to that!
I highly recommend you check out their site to see the timeline breakdown they put together showcasing the brand’s major milestones since its inception. Like when Don Q re-launched in the US in 2006, and since that time has gone on to win numerous awards at international competitions. Cheers to that, again!
The Spiced Rum
The first rum I’m excited to share with you is the Don Q Oak Barrel Spiced Rum. This exceptional spirit is a blend of rums aged a minimum of 3 years in American white oak barrels. It features a symphony of warm spices like vanilla, cinnamon, and caramel that when aged in oak barrels develops oaky notes and a hint of toasted coffee flavors. As for its good looks and mouthfeel, think a warm, golden hue with a smooth texture and noticeable legs. Thirsty yet? I know I am.
Of course, like any good rum, especially spiced rum, it’s easy to enjoy neat or over a few ice cubes, and Don Q Oak Barrel Spiced Rum is no exception. But perhaps today you’re feeling like something a bit more tropical; perhaps fruity even? Below you will find a special spiced daiquiri recipe the lovely folks at Don Q shared with me that you just have to try.
