As the title eludes to, Thomas Deininger is known as a junk artist. Traditionally, this style of an artist will collect garbage and create works of art from them. However, there is more than meets the eye with Deininger’s work. To send a message to those so willing to kill our precious planet by buying and throwing out useless, single-use plastic items, he has produced art that showcases the insects and animals being killed from our overconsumption. Up close, the art looks like trash that has been hot glued together, but as you move back, the garbage turns into beautiful pieces of art. So why create this series? Simple: 8 million tons of trash is dumped into our oceans every year, and it doesn’t like there is an end in sight. We must make changes and clean up our waste, or else our planet won’t have a future.
