Ineos is doing what Jeep has been doing for years: minting special editions of its off-roader. The difference is that Ineos is doing it with considerably more taste.
The Grenadier Helmsman is the first in a new series of limited-run specials inspired by the elements the truck was built to tackle. This one is all about the ocean. Ineos calls it the ideal 4×4 for watersports enthusiasts and seafarers, which tracks. The Grenadier already has legitimate nautical cred: the RNLI runs them.
What you get
The headline is the paint. Whiteout Blue Metallic was previously reserved for Ineos’s bespoke Arcane Works division, and it’s the color that makes the Helmsman look like something special rather than a sticker package. Eldoret Blue and Scottish White are also available, with Inky Black or Scottish White contrast roofs.
Every Helmsman gets the Dark Exterior Pack: black grille, dark skid plates, and matte black roof rails. Add 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, privacy glass, exclusive badging, and a rear access ladder on the Station Wagon (the Quartermaster pickup gets a load bay tub instead, since the Helmsman is offered on both body styles).
Inside, black leather gets oyster-colored inserts that pop against the dark cabin. Heated seats are standard, as is the Smooth Pack: ambient lighting, front parking sensors, and auxiliary electrical points. A premium sound system rounds it out.
Underneath, it’s the same Grenadier I covered in my first look: BMW straight-six, ladder-frame chassis, permanent four-wheel drive with up to three locking differentials. Nothing needed changing there.
The price is the surprise
In the UK, the Helmsman starts at £70,995. In the US, the Station Wagon starts at $78,995. Here’s the thing: optioning a regular Grenadier to the same spec would cost more. You’d start with the $80,900 Fieldmaster and add option packs on top, and you still couldn’t get Whiteout Blue or the oyster seats. For a special edition, that’s genuinely good value.
For context, the Grenadier launched in the US at $71,500 back in 2023, and the Quartermaster pickup joined the lineup later. The Helmsman sits above both in spec while undercutting a loaded Fieldmaster on price.
Why this one matters
Special editions are catnip for 4×4 buyers. Jeep proved it with a year of Wrangler specials, Land Rover does it with the Defender, and Toyota gives the 4Runner a special color every year. Buyers of these trucks like things that feel special, and Ineos clearly studied the playbook.
The Helmsman gets a short production window, then Ineos moves on to the next elements-inspired edition. Order books are open now. Read the full announcement from Ineos Automotive, or browse the Ineos Grenadier site for the configurator.
I’ve been following the Grenadier since the prototype days, and this is the version I’d actually spec. The Whiteout Blue alone is worth the price of admission.
